The 1800’s Restoration Project is an ongoing archival effort to preserve, transcribe, and contextualize a newly rediscovered 1890s manuscript written by frontier journalist Charles Lane Mosher, a member of the historic Lane‑Mosher family of Oregon. Overseen by Charles’s descendant Alex Walker‑Huntley (Cecelia Hunt), the owner of The Western Star Press™, the project documents the manuscript’s unlikely survival through the Great Book Scare, a period when countless books were destroyed over fears of tuberculosis transmission, and prepares Mosher’s work for its first publication in more than 130 years. This initiative brings together historical research, material preservation, and digital access to safeguard a rare piece of American literary and public‑health history.
